Coastal Span is a vibrant, bold, monochromatic wall sculpture made from acrylic washes, enamel and latex paints on Birch panels and MDF. The varying opacities of blue washed paint over the birch panels allow the brown wood grain to remain visible which creates a beautiful marbling effect. The aged metallic copper backer frames the piece and allows some copper to show through the negative space in the blue pieces. The result is a piece that is at once subtle and bold. It commands attention but in a refined way. The design nods to my influences in both mid-century modernism and the Art Deco movement.
